Lesson 11: As Platform for Change

We use ICT before and now for Change.

Throughout the years, we are using ICT for school works, updates, to gain more knowledge about a certain topic or thing or what's happening. But not only because of that... We can also use it for Change. 

According to the book and history, Philippines once used ICT to make a change in the society. Without ICT, Filipinos would not do any action. Using Radio Broadcast and Social Media.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an important role in our world today. But how can we connect ICT to the historical event-EDSA People Power Revolution? What is EDSA People Power Revolution? Why is it Important to know? Does it play an important role in the development of our country?

Information and Communication Technology(ICT) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing; radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software.

Historical Events occurred

1.    EDSA (People Power Revolution)/(PPR) - In 1986, millions of unarmed Filipinos surprised the world buy nonviolently overthrowing the brutal dictator Ferdinand Marcos, know at the time as "the Hitler of Southeast Asia". They called their movement "people power", demonstrating in an amazing way the power of active nonviolence, the power of truth and love, similar to what was seen in the Gandhian freedom struggle in India and the civil rights movement in the United States.

2. EDSA Dos - The EDSA Revolution of 2001, also called by the local media as EDSA II (pronounced as Edsa dos) or the Second People Power Revolution, is the common name of the four-day popular revolution that peacefully overthrew Philippines President Joseph Estrada in January 2001. He was succeeded by his then vice president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

3. Million People March - The Million People March or the so-called "Pork Barrel Scam" was the first ever on-going series of protest in the Philippines held at the Luneta Park on the 26th day of August 2013, about the total abolition of the Pork Barrel or the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam which triggered the anger of the people through social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

4. Yolanda People Finder - On the 8th day of November, the year 2013, people are living their lives peacefully until a massive tragedy shook their innocent lives. Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Typhoon Yolanda, was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded in the world history. It killed a total number of 6,300 people in the Philippines. 

Change.org is a petition website operated by for-profit Change.org, Inc. an American certified B corporation which claims to have over 100 million users and hosts sponsored campaigns for organizations. The company is headquartered in San Fransisco, California. The Website serves to facilitate petitions by the general public.
